Almost everyone nowadays knows what kite surfing is. Kite surfing, also called kiteboarding, is a spectacular sport in which you are pulled over the water by means of a kite while standing on a kiteboard. In this sport you can make very high jumps where jumps of 10 meters or even higher can be made!
Kitesurfing is therefore not without danger, and kitesurfing lessons at a recognized kitesurfing school before you start is 100% recommended. Never try to kite surf without a lesson, because every year accidents happen with inexperienced kite surfers, who could easily have been prevented.
Kitesurf kites and kiteboards
When kite surfing you need a kite surfing set that consists of a wetsuit , a trapeze / harness , a kite (size varies by weight of the kiter and wind strength), a kiteboard, a kitebar (handlebar with lines of 25m on average), a kite pump and a safety leash if not included with the bar. You can now go on the water to practice one of the most beautiful water sports.
Kites also vary in size, you are talking about square meters and the most used kite set for all-round kiters in the Netherlands consists of a set of 2 kites which have a size of 9m2 and 12m2. Nowadays, kites have a large wind range, but when it blows from the planets you really need a smaller kite than when there is a nice breeze. That is why you have to think in advance with which wind strength the water wants to go and how heavy you are, because this obviously also plays a role in choosing the right kite size.
There are small kites that start at 3.5 m2, but these kites are hardly used because they are very nervous to handle and with an average weight of 70 kg you need a lot of wind to be able to kite surf properly. As the smallest kite with a weight of 70kg, choose a 7m2 or a 6m2 then you can almost always kite with strong wind. Is your kite still too big? Then the wind probably blows so hard that you cannot safely enter the water with a small kite. The largest kite you see nowadays will be around 17m2, because brands nowadays have so much knowledge that you can kiteboard with a 17m2, even when there is almost no wind. Previously, kites of even 22m2 were also produced, but you can imagine that these kites were so large that there was almost no speed in the steering. Fortunately, today's kites have much more power per m2. At Eurofuncenter we also sell used kites and ex demo kites at competitive prices.
Purchase a kiteboard
Do not forget to weigh up what type of kiteboard you prefer to sail. There are many brands, so also many different models. Every year we offer test equipment at our branches on the beach where you can test boards (but also kites) before you buy anything. As an experienced kite surfer you are looking for a certain type of kiteboard with the right properties that suit your needs. Then testing is a perfect way to find out whether the board we recommend to you really meets your needs. What you must of course fit is a trapeze. This is the link between you and your kite and must sometimes be able to withstand enormous forces, but also distribute those forces over your body. That's why you need to try on a harness before buying it.
Testing of kites and kiteboards
Our men are regularly on the waterfront with test kites so that you can try the material to your heart's content. Do you want to test a kite before purchasing it. We understand that completely and it is often possible. You pick up the kite from us and return your kite in the evening.
In addition to the kit offer, Eurofuncenter has a kiteboarding school under the name Eurofuncenter Academy . Here we teach beginners and advanced students. The location is Brouwersdam, one of the safest kite spots in the Netherlands. So if you want to kite surf, first go to Eurofuncenter.
