Almost everyone knows what kitesurfing is nowadays. Kitesurfing, also called kiteboarding, is a spectacular sport where you are pulled over the water with a kite while standing on a kiteboard. With this sport you can make very high jumps with jumps of easily 10 meters or even higher can be made!
Kitesurfing is therefore not without danger, and kitesurfing lessons at a recognized kite surfing school before you start its 100% recommended. Never try without a lesson yourself, because every year accidents occur with inexperienced kitesurfers that could easily have been prevented.
Kitesurf kites and kiteboards
When kitesurfing you need a kitesurfing set consisting of a wetsuit , a trapeze / harness, a kite (size differs per weight of the kiter and wind strength), a kiteboard, a kitebar (stalk with lines of average 25m long), a kitepomp and a safety lease if it is not included in the bar. You can now go on the water to practice one of the most beautiful water sports.
Kites also vary in size, you speak here about square meters and the most used kite kit for all-round kiters in the Netherlands consists of a set of 2 kites which have a size of 9m2 and 12m2. Nowadays, kites have a large wind range, but when the planets are blowing, you really need a smaller kite than when there is a nice breeze. That is why you have to think in advance with what wind strength the water wants and how heavy you are, because this also plays a role in choosing the right kitemaat.
There are small kites that start at 3.5m2 but these kites are almost not used because they are very nervous in handling and with a weight of 70kg on average they need a lot of wind for decent kite surfing. Choose as the smallest kite with a weight of 70kg for a 7m2 or a 6m2 then you can almost always kite with strong wind. Is your kite still too big? Then it is probably blowing so hard that you can not safely reach the water with a small kite. The largest kite you will see today will be around 17m2, because brands now have so much knowledge that you can kiteboard with a 17m2, even if there is almost no wind. Previously there were also kites produced of even 22m2 but you can imagine that these kites were so large that there was almost no speed in steering. Fortunately, the kites of today have much more power per m2. At Eurofuncenter we also sell used kites and ex demo kites at competitive prices.
Do not forget to consider what type of kiteboard you would prefer to go sailing. There are many brands, so there are also many different models. We offer test equipment every year at our beachside stores where you can test boards (but also kites) before you buy. As an experienced kitesurfer you are looking for a certain type of kiteboard with the right characteristics that fit well with your wishes. Then testing is a perfect way to find out whether the board what we recommend you really fits your wishes. What you obviously need to adjust is a trapeze. This is the link between you and your kite and sometimes you have to endure enormous powers but also divide those powers over your body. That's why you have to fit a trapeze before you buy it.
