Kitesurfing is a combination of holding a kite in the air and controlling a board. Both can be learned and combined. To make a headstart with kitesurfing, learning how to handle a kite is a handy first step.

You can learn to fly a kite to go kitesurfing later with a Powerkite. A power kite is a kite that gives just that little bit more power than a normal kite. Is equipped with two fishing rods or a bar. It is wise to power kit on the beach or in another place where you have a lot of space. By means of the wind, air enters the kite, giving it its shape. So you don't have to inflate a power kite. The advantage of this is that the kite is super lightweight and that the kite will go up with little wind. The more wind, the more wind, the more power he gets. We advise beginners to practice with wind force 2 to 4 first.
I want to buy a power kite, what should I pay attention to? A number of factors play a role when purchasing a power kite. The size of the kite, body weight, level of the kite and wind strength. If there is little wind, you choose a larger kite, if there is more wind, you choose a smaller one. Below is a table with the sizes of the kite in relation to your weight.

30 – 40 kg Kite size 1.0 – 1.2 m²
40 – 50 kg Kite size 1.2 – 1.5 m²
50 – 60 kg Kite size 1.5 – 2.0 m²
60 – 70 kg Kite size 2.0 – 2.5 m²
70 – 80 kg Kite size 2.5 – 3.0 m²
80 – 90 kg Kite size 3.0 – 3.5 m²
90 – 100 kg Kite size 3.5 – 4.0 m²
100 – 110 kg Kite size 4.0 – 4.5 m²

How do I control my Powerkite?

Simple by making one line shorter than the other. This changes the direction of the kite. The idea is that you pull on the leash and do not make a circular movement. When you pull one line towards you, push the other line away from you. So if you want to steer to the left, pull your left hand towards you and let your right hand celebrate a little. Just make sure you send the power kite back in time, otherwise it will loop and end up on the ground

Hangtime with a Powerkite

If you've mastered power kiting a bit, you can even grab a little hang time in the air by making a jump when the kite is pulling at its hardest and letting it take you along. Start Power Kiting
